The nhow Rotterdam design hotel in De Rotterdam has been awarded the much-coveted ENTREE Hospitality & Style Award for ‘Best Hotel Design 2014’. The ENTREE Awards are decided on by a professional jury and are awarded to distinctive hotels and hospitality establishments with an exceptional design, concept or service.

In the Best Hotel Design category, nhow Rotterdam found itself competing against three hotels in Amsterdam: Waldorf Astoria, Hotel De Hallen and the Brooklyn Hotel. At the presentation nhow Rotterdam was voted the winner, being praised in particular for the overwhelming architecture of the building that forms an essential element of the hotel design.

First OMA/Rem Koolhaas hotel in the world

nhow Rotterdam, designed by OMA/Rem Koolhaas, opened its doors in De Rotterdam in January 2014. The hotel interior has also been designed by the architects at OMA, making the nhow hotel the very first OMA/Rem Koolhaas hotel in the world. The design of nhow is typified by the contrasts between the high-quality finish of the materials such as mirrors and gold tints and rough materials such as steel and concrete. The rawness of the design gives the building its ‘typical Rotterdam’ appearance, which is entirely in keeping with the nhow Rotterdam concept.

For the ‘Best Hotel Design’ Award, the jury considered the originality, aesthetic quality and functionality of the interior design of the nominated hotels, in both the public areas and the guest rooms.

The jury report said:

The overwhelming architecture of the building forms an essential element of the hotel design and was the deciding factor when presenting this award. The building is crucial to the overall experience of the hotel, which has put itself firmly on the design map of the Netherlands. A player of international allure with a restrained interior’.
